
Paraguay (official name, Republic of Paraguay), republic located in central South America, bordered to the north and northwest by Bolivia, Brazil to the east and south and southwest Argentina. The land area is 406,752 km ². Asunción is the capital.
Paraguay (Guarani, Paraguay), officially the Republic of Paraguay is a country and sovereign state located in the south central and eastern South America. Its territory occupies two distinct regions separated by the Paraguay River, the Oriental, which is the most populated, and the West, part of the Chaco Boreal. After the War of the Triple Alliance, 80% of the Paraguayan population disappeared, falling from 1 million to just over 200,000 souls. The country was repopulated with European immigrants, mainly Germans, Ukrainians and Italians and from the 1970, with the massive influx of immigrants from Brazil, Argentine and Oriental.
Paraguay is colloquially known as the heartland of America. Shares with Brazil the largest operational hydroelectric power in the world, making it the second largest electricity exporter in the world.
